Experiencing Violines Para Ochun

I take you through my experience seeing the performance “Violines Para Ochún: A Musical and Spiritual Journey from Africa, to Cuba, to New York City” on Sunday, October 25, 2026 in the Bronx, NYC. Directed by Louis Bauzó and presented by CCCADI.

The video takes you through experiencing a live art event at Hostos; a historical and living journey of the spiritual and human lives of the African diaspora; the traditions welcomed from the audience; and the powerful storytelling of the performers. See the Orisha Pantheon on display, an invested audience and a community organization creating cultural memories for its constituents and beyond. And honoring the Orisha Ochún with a commanding orchestra, including her favored stringed instruments.

Presented by:
“The Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute (CCCADI), in collaboration with Hostos Center for the Arts & Culture and the Leonard Davis Center for the Performing Arts…. An original four-chapter production under the musical direction of Louis Bauzó, Violines Para Ochún will feature an intergenerational cast of musicians, dancers and practitioners…”

Be on the look out for future performances.

Note that I create these recaps when I can and not as a professional “content creator”. They are all heart. Do look into the works of folks who specialize in these fields for deeper knowledge of the subjects; on the spot coverage like I do can spill into simplification of terms used.
